Happy Self-Care Sunday loves! I don’t know about you, but self-care is definitely at the bottom of my list lately. It’s not that I don’t care, because I really do. I recognize how much better I feel when I stop and actually take proper care of myself, but BOY has this been a long semester. So when I say what I’m about to, know that this is me talking to myself as well: take care of yourself!

As much as I love face masks and baths, I know that self-care is not just that. For me, self-care means getting my life in order (or at least seeming to be in order). I like lists. I’m a highly anxious person that is always overthinking everything, so making lists really helps me feel more calm and put together. I write everything down, even tasks as simple as “do laundry”, “make dinner”, and “clean makeup brushes”. Something about being able to physically see what I have to do and cross it off when it’s done relieves so much anxiety for me. While I do this every day, Sunday is by far my favourite “get your life together” day of the week. There’s just something about starting a new week feeling level-headed, refreshed and prepared that makes taking on 7 days of work and stress so much more manageable.

Another thing that I’ve been trying more lately is being more aware of my emotions. I’m definitely a person who puts on a brave face every day and doesn’t like to admit when I’m feeling down or overwhelmed. Something that I find really helps is allowing myself to really feel whatever is under the surface. If I need to cry, I let it out. If I’m feeling thankful, I reflect on what I’m thankful for at that moment. Doing this allows me to begin a new week feeling more centred and authentic to myself.

Again, I just wanted to stress that while bath bombs and lotions are great, not all self-care is glamourous. It can be tackling the things we’ve been putting off, eating a nutritious meal, or even as seemingly simple as reminding ourselves to shower. Whatever your self-care may look like, don’t forget to do it! Take care of yourself first, always.
