“Mental Health Week”: A Poem by @kristyf1504

Posted by on

Will you care after the eleventh?

When the signs at work come down

And the tweets and photos

Disappear into the void of the feed?

Will you care once the week

Is no longer labeled,

Telling you to be aware?

Will you care?

Will you want to know more

About how my brain keeps me

A prisoner, held down by my own thoughts,

A free man, released one moment, then handcuffed again,

In the blink of an eye.

When the tweets stop,

And the posts disappear,

Will you care that this is more than a week?

Will you remember that this week is my life?

Will you hold my hand for longer than the nanosecond

That is ‘mental health week’?
