Be Selfish

Posted by on

We’ve all grown up learning that being selfish is bad, no ifs, ands, or buts. Being selfish is always associated with mean spirited individuals who refuse to share anything. But what if I told you that being selfish, well, a certain kind of selfish isn’t bad for you at all? I know what you’re thinking, wtf?

Well, let me break it down for you. Sometimes being selfish is a good thing, especially when it comes to your mental health. If you’re constantly hanging around certain individuals who seem to suck all your energy up and leave you feeling bad about yourself, then it’s time to be selfish and take your “power” back by taking some time to yourself and reevaluating a few friendships. Being selfish can also mean just doing something for yourself – IE taking the day to yourself, doing something just for you that makes you feel good. You see, selfishness in that sense isn’t bad at all, in fact I encourage it.

Sometimes you need to be selfish. Sometimes your mental health needs you to be selfish. If you’ve always wanted to go to the gym but felt guilty or selfish for using up that time for yourself – GO ANYWAY! There’s nothing selfish about going to the gym and taking care of yourself. When you do things for yourself, especially all those good things, not only do you feel a sense of pride, but it builds up your confidence as well – and that’s a form of self-care and accomplishment that no one can take away from you.

So go ahead, be selfish, do it for yourself and feel great.
